Marshals Reveals How Long Monica Has Been Gone in Emotional Episode

One year later, the show finally puts Kayce and Tate in front of it.

Kayce and Tate visit Monica Long’s grave in Marshals one year after her death

Monica Long deserved a goodbye. Yellowstone spent five seasons putting her through ranch fires, miscarriages, kidnappings, and a near-fatal car accident, then gave her cancer and an off-screen death in the Marshals premiere — no final scene, no last exchange with Kayce, nothing. The show treated her exit like something to move past.

The April 5 episode does not go back and fix that.

It opens in a bedroom. A nurse pulls a sheet over Monica’s body. Two words appear on screen — “One Year Ago.”

Then it cuts to a grave.

Kayce and Tate stand there. Tate almost did not come. Kayce brings Monica’s necklace with him. He has been carrying it for a year.

No music pushing the moment. No close-up asking for a reaction.

The third person is Felix Long, Monica’s grandfather. Rudy Ramos appears without introduction. The episode does not stop to explain who he is.

Tate is the one who speaks.

“I came out here hoping Mom would cheer me up. She usually does.”

Kayce keeps the necklace in his hand.

“Maybe it’s time I start letting go.”

Felix stands beside them without saying anything.

Taylor Sheridan has spoken about writing Monica out instead of reducing her role. Flashbacks have been mentioned.

The episode does not go there.

It stays with the three of them at the headstone.

They do not leave right away.
