Heartland is coming back for Season 20, and filming has already started in Alberta for a fall 2026 release. For a show that has lasted longer than almost any other TV drama, the renewal is not a surprise—the real mystery is what happens next to Amy Fleming.
Ever since Ty Borden died in Season 14, Heartland has struggled to move on. Ty was a main character whose romance with Amy carried the show for a decade, and no new storyline has been able to replace that loss.
Nathan Pryce has forced fans into a real argument that breaks out with every new episode. The debate isn’t just about Nathan himself—it’s about what he represents. Accepting him means accepting that Amy is moving on, and many aren’t ready to let go.
Heartland has intentionally taken its time with Amy and Nathan so the audience wouldn’t feel rushed. Depending on who you ask, this caution feels like honest storytelling or plain stalling. Either way, Season 20 has to move forward—Amy is in her late thirties, and life at the ranch cannot stay on pause forever.

Best show of ALL TIME. It’s realife as I was Georgie and Amy growing up, Lol. I’m 59 and for past 6 1/2 . months recovering from cellulitis/MRSA , Heartland has saved me from going insane. Love watching and laughing at Tim at Jack, loud drama and Rick is hilarious and I love the scenery, family life I wish people had these days. I can actually see this keep going on for several more years. I would LOVE TO SEE ANOTHER HEARTLAND CHRISTMAS. Heartland cast is PHENOMENAL!
I hope Heartland never ends selfishly. It has got me through many years of taking care of my husband who was terminally ill. It has become my happy place. I never get tired of watching it over and over again. Season 19 didn’t have very many episodes. That makes me sad.
