Tom Selleck marvels at Blue Bloods’ continuing success

The Blue Bloods stars are delighted with their continued success.

Tom Selleck recently spoke about his feelings wanting the show to enter its 14th season and run to 300 episodes.

The veteran actor proudly said that at his age he was able to enjoy this success and is ready to move on.

Donnie Wahlberg discusses why the show continues to thrive and how proud he is to be a part of it.

The pair also shared the joyous anniversary they're celebrating, and Wahlberg talked about dreams casting fans have.

This has contributed to Blue Bloods' incredible success and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Tom Selleck Talks About The Blue Bloods' Incredible Success

Tom Selleck was already a TV veteran thanks to his legendary role as Magnum P.I. in the 1980s. This took him from the big screen to starring in Jesse Stone's hit TV movies.

But when Frank landed the role of Reagan in 2010, Selleck had no idea that "Blue Bloods" would become one of television's biggest and most successful shows. The series reached 250 episodes last year, but there is a good chance it will break the 300-episode mark.

Speaking about the series on Entertainment Tonight, Selleck was surprised that the show lasted much longer than expected.

“We did eight [seasons] on Magnum [P.I.] and I thought I’d never get that lucky again and now we’ve done 13 and going strong It’s hard to say you’re gonna go 13 seasons and we’re approaching 300 episodes, but I’ve always thought the show had enormous potential because there’s police work but it was a character-driven show.

And I think my experience on Magnum was the same thing — being character-driven, the story could keep evolving and change when people get older, and all those things add to your ability to tell stories. We’re not out of ideas yet.”

That's good news for fans of the show, which continues to be the highest-rated network series on Fridays.

Selleck is not alone, because one of his TV sons is happy about the success of the show.

Although known for his work with the New Kids on the Block and several TV shows, Donnie Wahlberg didn't have much success before his role as Danny Reagan in Blue Bloods.

The hot-tempered cop has been through a lot, from the loss of his wife, Linda, to falling out with his family, but he's still going strong and Wahlberg agrees with Selleck about how lucky he is to be enjoying this long-running role.

“It takes a lot of luck to get to this point. For anyone who’s trying to have a career in acting or show business, you need luck. You need an audience that cares about your show or whatever it is you’re doing and you need a great team. There’s so many elements that go into it but when we started I would say I thought it would be around for a little while, I couldn’t imagine 13 years. But I definitely thought five, maybe six or seven. But it’s like a train now. It just won’t stop rolling. It’s a miracle, it’s amazing and we’re blessed and grateful.”

Wahlberg addressed some fans' hopes that his real-life wife, Jenny McCarthy, would guest star on the show, perhaps even as Danny's new love.

Wahlberg laughed that McCarthy is busy hosting the masked singer and "I don't think it's going to work."

Both Selleck and Wahlberg celebrate anniversaries. Selleck just enjoyed married to Jilly Mack for 35 years. Wahlberg, meanwhile, is celebrating the 35th anniversary of his hit album NKOTB next year.

Selleck's words on the anniversary not only spoke about his marriage, but also the Blue Bloods itself.

“Who’s counting?” Selleck sweetly responded. “We’re having a great ol’ time.”

Fans are just as excited as the cast as they hope to continue the Blue Bloods for many years to come.
