It feels like the end of an era. After 30 years of keeping people in line on daytime television, Judge Judy is officially stepping away from the bench.
The 83-year-old TV legend confirmed that the current season of her courtroom show, Judy Justice, will be her last. Fans will get to watch her final ruling when the last episode airs on October 22 on Prime Video and Amazon Freevee.
Judy Sheindlin first showed up on our screens back in 1996 with the original Judge Judy. Before Hollywood found her, she spent years working in New York’s family court system, where her blunt, no-nonsense attitude made waves. That exact personality turned her original show into a massive hit that ran for 25 seasons before wrapping up in 2021. From there, she jumped straight to streaming with Judy Justice, picking up two Daytime Emmy Awards along the way.
That said, she isn’t vanishing completely. Her team says she’s “not retiring, just rewiring,” meaning she’s going to spend more time with family and focus on producing projects behind the camera instead of starring in them.
Who Is Taking Over?
She isn’t leaving the TV courtroom empty, either. She’s passing the torch to someone who already knows the family business: her son, Adam Levy.
Levy isn’t new to the legal world. He spent over 25 years working as a prosecutor, private attorney, and District Attorney. He just launched his own syndicated court show, Adam’s Law, which was put together by Judge Judy herself and her production crew. His show is set to roll out across local TV stations around the country to fill the spot.
Judy made it clear she trusts him completely with the gig, saying not many people can carry an unscripted half-hour show on their own, but “he has what it takes.”
As for her own run? Judy says she’s walking away completely content: “I don’t have to prove anything else. I did it.”
