Heartland Season 20 is officially happening. CBC made the big announcement, and the show is set to return in fall 2026.
CBC confirmed the renewal in late May. Filming is already underway in Alberta. The long-running family drama is about to hit a milestone that very few TV shows ever reach.
When the show first started in 2007, nobody thought we’d still be following Amy, Jack, and the rest of the family almost twenty years later. But here we are. The show still draws big crowds in Canada and all over the world. It’s become one of those rare family dramas that just sticks around.
Getting to Season 20 puts Heartland in a really exclusive club. Most scripted dramas don’t survive past a few seasons, so this is a big deal.
CBC didn’t give away much about the new season. They only teased that the Bartlett-Fleming family will keep dealing with ranch life and finding new ways to stick together. As always, they’re keeping the plot details under wraps.
For fans, this news comes during a time of big changes. Over the last few seasons, the show has had to evolve. We’ve seen major characters leave, huge turning points, new faces, and new directions for old favorites.
But the heart of the show remains exactly the same. It’s still about family, horses, community, and the hard work of running a ranch through good times and bad.
That simple approach is what’s helped the show outlast every TV trend that’s come and gone since 2007. Networks change, how we watch TV changes, but Heartland just keeps going.
Season 20 is also a perfect time to look back at how far we’ve come. We watched Amy grow from a teenager into a mom. Lou built her own life and career. Jack became one of the most well-known ranch dads on TV. Whole generations of viewers have literally grown up with these characters.
Filming for Season 20 is happening right now in Alberta. You can expect it to premiere in fall 2026 on CBC and CBC Gem.
From a story about a young girl, an injured horse, and a struggling ranch to twenty seasons—that’s something nobody saw coming.
Now, Heartland gets to write its next chapter.

I hope Heartland never ends selfishly. It has got me through many years of taking care of my husband who was terminally ill. It has become my happy place. I never get tired of watching it over and over again. Season 19 didn’t have very many episodes. That makes me sad.
Best show of ALL TIME. It’s realife as I was Georgie and Amy growing up, Lol. I’m 59 and for past 6 1/2 . months recovering from cellulitis/MRSA , Heartland has saved me from going insane. Love watching and laughing at Tim at Jack, loud drama and Rick is hilarious and I love the scenery, family life I wish people had these days. I can actually see this keep going on for several more years. I would LOVE TO SEE ANOTHER HEARTLAND CHRISTMAS. Heartland cast is PHENOMENAL!
