Amber Marshall Doesn’t Just Play a Cowgirl on TV—She Is One

To her fans, she’s Amy Fleming. But when the cameras stop rolling, the boots stay on.

You know how it usually goes: you watch a show about ranch life, but as soon as the director yells “cut,” the actor hops into a black SUV and heads back to a pristine condo in the city. They wouldn’t be caught dead cleaning a stall.

But Amber Marshall? She’s the total opposite.

We know and love her as Amy Fleming, the horse whisperer on Heartland, but the reason she’s so good at the role is simple: she isn’t really acting. When she leaves the set, she goes home to a life that looks almost exactly like the script.

The Ranch Is Her Real Home

Amber didn’t just buy a few boots for the aesthetic. She lives on a massive 100-acre ranch in Alberta. It’s not a vacation home; it’s where she actually lives with her husband and a chaotic, wonderful mix of animals. We’re talking horses, cows, dogs, cats, chickens, and yeah, even parrots.

She actually told the CBC once that her life and the show just sort of… blend together. “It’s horses, cows, dogs — that whole Western vibe. It’s just… me,” she said.

Most days, she’s up before the sun doing chores before she even gets to the set. She’s living the Heartland life, just without the cameras rolling (and maybe a little less drama than Ty and Amy had). That’s honestly why we love her character so much—you can tell she’s comfortable around the animals because she does this every single day.

A True Cowgirl at Heart

Amber grew up in London, Ontario, and she was the kid obsessed with horses while everyone else was riding bikes. She was even a vet tech for a while. So when she landed the role of Amy back in 2007, it wasn’t just a job; it was the perfect fit.

Here is the part that really impresses fans: Amber doesn’t have a “glam squad” waiting to clean up after her at home. She’ll go from filming a tear-jerker of a scene straight to hauling hay or bottle-feeding a rescue animal.

She’s mentioned before that the hard work keeps her grounded. There’s something peaceful about coming home to animals who don’t care that you’re famous—they just want to be fed.

Why Follow Her

Amber gives us a peek into this life on her YouTube channel, Ramblin’ Rides. If you haven’t seen it, you should check it out (linked below). It’s not polished Hollywood stuff; it’s just her, the farm, and real life.

A beautiful glimpse into the real world behind the Heartland star.

She walks the walk. She advocates for mental health, supports charities, and actually lives out the values she portrays on TV. In an industry full of fake personas, Amber Marshall is the real deal. And honestly? That’s why we’ll keep watching Heartland forever.
